Sólheimajökull, Iceland

I was hoping that I would get to touch a glacier at some point while in Iceland. Here at Sólheimajökull I had my chance. This glacier is notorious for it's intermittent flood waves. Positioned above geothermally active hotspots, pressure from melted ice underneath the glacier builds until the water rushes its way out at the terminus. The road we drove in on was the third reconstruction in recent years, as the flood waves obliterate everything in their path.
