The Skógar museum also houses several buildings on its grounds, including this traditional turf farm complex. While meager, the turf roof did provide a degree of insulation from Iceland's abrasive climate. Other structures on the grounds were built with the living area above the cattle stalls, so as to use the animal's body heat to warm the house.
