Farm, Southern Coastlands, Iceland

Much of Iceland's farmland is used for grazing; sheep and horses are staples. While I did not get a chance to see Icelandic horses up close, I did learn a few interesting facts about them. In particular, I learned about tölt, the fifth gait. While some horses can be trained to run in a fifth gait (in addition to trot, canter, etc.), Icelandic horses are naturally adept at tölt. They say that while it is extremely fast, it is smooth enough for the rider to drink a cup of coffee without spilling a drop.
